New documentation requirements for restrictive practice
The DoHDA released this week new advice on gaining consent for restrictive practice. The information supports my direction of increasing the amount of documentation in progress notes, in particular, recording conversations had with residents and relatives as evidence.
In this release the advice is to ensure providers have recorded in documentation that consent was requested and gained by either the resident or representative for a restrictive practice by the prescriber. This will need to be documented at every review. As always it is up to our nursing and care staff to ensure our GPs and NPs are documenting the words we need for compliance.
